Jake’s ant nest

I am a professional web and user-interface designer working as the Usability Design Manager for MyKnowledgeMap in York, UK. My strong art & design background coupled with a solid knowledge of systems development and programming techniques puts me in a unique position to develop interfaces that are both aesthetically pleasing and functionally intuitive.

Taking time away from working on projects for such clients as the NHS, The RSPB, The Chartered Management Institute, GHD and a number of further and higher education institutions, this site is my personal playground, portfolio and blog.

d13design has gone pink for October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness!

But to be clear, raising money isn’t the primary purpose of this web event. The hope is that you turn your site pink (in whatever way works for your site), educate yourself about the multiple issues related to Breast Cancer, then take that knowledge and tell someone else what you’ve learned.”

We were in the garden the other weekend doing a bit of work re-seeding the lawn now all the weeds have died back and Jake started shouting that he’d found some “creepy things”. Not quite sure what he had found, we went to investigate what appeared to be a big mound of soil next to the greenhouse.

As we got closer we noticed it was covered in ants! It appears that one whole half of the nest had slid off revealing the network of tunnels inside.

The ants didn’t look best pleased by this and they were scurrying frantically trying to recover all of the eggs that had rolled out of the main chambers. Just before hosing the whole lot down I managed to grab some quick photos of the ants at work…
